San Diego, CA – Three Killed in Car Crash on I-5 near Pulgas Rd.

San Diego, CA (June 27, 2024) – The California Highway Patrol was called to the scene of a deadly accident in San Diego on Thursday, June 27. The incident happened around 3:00 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the I-5 Freeway near Las Pulgas Road and Camp Pendleton.

Officials say that a black Jeep Wrangler struck a guardrail and stalled in the middle of the freeway. A Mercedes-Benz Springer then collided with the Jeep and overturned. Subsequently, four motorcycles struck the overturned Mercedes and caught on fire. Fire and rescue crews responded to the scene. Three of the four motorcyclists were killed in the accident. At least five other people were taken to area hospitals with undisclosed injuries. No one involved in the accident has been identified. Police are still investigating and have not said if any charges will be filed. More details will be provided as the inquiry advances.
